What is a single-speed bike?

A single-speed bike has just one gear and no gear shifter. That means the chain doesn’t move between cogs - it stays fixed on one front and one rear sprocket

What type of bike chains do Insane Chains fit?

Insane Chains are designed to snap onto standard 1/2" x 1/8" single-speed chains - the most common chain size for kids’ bikes, BMX bikes, cruisers, and fixies. They won’t fit derailleur-style multi-speed chains or chains with unusual dimensions.

Do they fit half-link chains?

No - Insane Chains are not compatible with half-link chains. These chains have a unique shape that doesn’t allow our caps to snap on securely.

Do they fit on e-bikes?

Yes, if your e-bike uses a 1/2" x 1/8" single-speed chain without a derailleur, Insane Chains will fit. Some sprocket guards may need to be adjusted or removed. If you are unsure, check your chain size and sprocket guard with us before ordering.

What’s the difference between adult and kids’ Insane Chains?

Kids’ bikes (typically 14" wheels or smaller) use a 35-piece pack to cover the length of the chain. Most adult, BMX, cruiser, fixed gear bikes require 56 pieces. We size our packs to match.

Do they fit all BMX bikes?

Nearly all BMX bikes use a 1/2" x 1/8" chain - so yes, Insane Chains are compatible with most major BMX brands like SE Bikes, GT, Moongose etc. However, flat line and free style BMXs are not often compatible due to the small rear sprocket. If in doubt, please reach out and check prior to purchase.

Will they fall off?

No. Our patented snap-on design holds tight. Riders have tested them on jumps, tricks, wheelies, ramps, and trails and they stay put.

How do you install Insane Chains?

Snap each cap directly onto the chain link of your single-speed chain. No tools needed. Most installs take 10–15 minutes and are a great parent-kid activity or DIY project.

How do you remove them?

To remove them you will need a flat head screw driver to pop them off. Please refer to the video here for step by step instruction.

Can I still oil the chain with caps on?

Yes, Insane Chains are designed to leave the underside of your chain exposed so you can lube and maintain your drivetrain without removing the caps.
